How Canva empowers millions of children and teachers by bringing creativity to the classroom

And how Bett has helped Canva's Education team make meaningful connections to expand its tools across the world

Canva’s two-step plan is at the heart of the business: Step One being to ‘build one of the world's most valuable companies’, and Step Two to ‘do the most good we can’. This guiding principle is the driver behind the company’s global free-for-schools initiative, Canva for Education, which is bridging gaps in education equity.

Despite already expanding Canva for Education across the UK and Europe, at Bett London, the world’s leading education technology event, Canva had the opportunity to meet with various educational institutions that kick-started life-changing opportunities for millions of students and teachers in Eastern Europe.

Breaking barriers in Poland

In March 2023, Canva’s Global Head of Sales and Customer Success, Jason Wilmot, met with a delegation from Poland at Bett. During the discussion, Polish representatives learned about the free tool that is revolutionising classrooms. Recognising its potential, the delegation invited Canva to a reception at the Polish Cultural Institute in London, where the team met the Minister of Education.

From that moment, conversations turned into action. Canva’s tools were introduced in schools across Poland, bringing free design resources and support to over 7 million teachers and students. In a region historically slower to adopt classroom technology, this was a game-changer.

This success adds to Canva’s global impact, with more than 80 million teachers and students in over 190 countries now using the platform every month.

Deepening understanding of Canva's impact

When returning to Bett in January 2025, the Canva team has set themselves the objective of bringing the creative ways Canva can be used in the classroom.

Petia When we first attended Bett, the question was, Who is Canva? This year, it’s more about, What can Canva do for education? and this is brilliant progress that Bett has fueled.

Matt One of Canva’s most powerful traits is its ability to really engage students in their work, whether it’s through mastering video editing to bring an idea to life, or through presentations to showcase a project. One of my favourite use cases was a group of children who used Canva to complete an assignment which asked them to design a community app. Some of the submissions were really impressive.

A truly global impact

At Bett, Canva’s team has the opportunity to network and build connections to expand their impact in harder-to-reach regions.

By leveraging Bett to meet educators, government leaders, and NGOs, Canva is laying the groundwork for future partnerships in areas where children often lack access to quality tools. Their goal is to ensure students in these regions are not left behind in the digital revolution.

At the heart of education

Bett places Canva at the epicentre of the global education community, offering an unparalleled platform to connect with exactly the right audience. It’s more than a showcase; it’s where meaningful conversations happen, and powerful partnerships form. For Canva, Bett isn’t just about demonstrating how their tools can transform classrooms, it’s about immersing themselves in the sector, staying attuned to its evolving needs, and uncovering new opportunities.

Matt Bett is a chance to be at the centre of everything that’s happening in education; to connect, listen, and learn so we can make an even greater impact.
