Hyve Journeys: From Financial Reporting Manager to Group Financial Controller

Introducing Hyve Journeys: sharing real career stories from across Hyve. First up: Callie.

Welcome to Hyve Journeys on our #LifeAtHyve blog — where we bring to life how our people grow their careers at Hyve.

From navigating business-critical change to stepping into a group leadership role, Callie's career at Hyve has progressed quickly.

Since joining in April 2022 as Financial Reporting Manager, she has taken on new challenges, including a maternity leave cover in a commercial finance role supporting Global Brands, which gave her valuable exposure to the commercial side of the business and a deeper understanding of how Hyve's events perform on the ground. Combining this with her group finance experience has been instrumental in her progression to Group Financial Controller.

Now part of the Finance Leadership Team, Callie works alongside James Warsop, Olly Trounce, Rob Chillman and Peter Reeves.

In this first Hyve Journeys feature, she shares the experiences that shaped that journey - the challenges, the opportunities and the people behind her growth.

My journey at Hyve

I joined Hyve’s Group Finance team in April 2022 as Financial Reporting Manager right when the business was mid-way through the complex sale process of its Russian operations. Since then, the finance function has continued to undergo significant change, including Hyve going private when it was bought by private equity, acquiring fast-growing events businesses and implementing a new finance system. Being exposed to these new challenges and experiences has accelerated my career development and brought me to where I am today as Group Financial Controller.

What's been your most memorable moment at Hyve?

One of my most memorable moments at Hyve was in the Sales Lounge at Shoptalk Europe in 2025. This was my fourth time supporting a sales team with onsite rebook in 12 months. By applying learnings from previous shows and through strong collaboration with the sales team, we were able to smash our target.

The energy in the room was infectious - it was one of those moments that really captures the excitement of being part of an event.

What advice would you give someone looking to grow within the company?

I would encourage people to embrace change, expand their network across Hyve, and say “yes” when new opportunities arise.

I was fortunate to complete a 12-month secondment to the RetailTech portfolio’s Commercial Finance team last year. The opportunity to travel to events with a new group of colleagues and see the teams deliver an incredible event after a full year of preparation was a career highlight.

Group Finance reports on all 30+ events across the portfolio, so being able to dive deeper into five of those events gave me a much stronger understanding and appreciation of what Hyve delivers to its customers.

Looking back, what’s something you’ve learned about yourself through your career journey?

Whilst I enjoy analysing and crunching numbers in Excel, what truly motivates me is the people I work with. My proudest achievements often involve helping a team member grow and develop or supporting leadership by implementing process improvements that make a real difference.

How were you supported during your promotion/growth by Hyve?

My promotion to Group Financial Controller would not have been possible without the support of my line manager, Olly Trounce. Olly’s management style strikes a balance between encouraging independent problem solving and always being available to offer advice and guidance when needed. I’m grateful for the trust that Olly and the leadership team placed in me by giving me the opportunity to step into the Group Financial Controller role before I had fully proven I was ready. Knowing that my colleagues were there to support me gave me the confidence to take that next step and grow into the role.

This is the first story in our Hyve Journeys series, sharing how people grow, develop and build their careers at Hyve.
