Pure London launches The Independent Fashion Retailer Sustainability Toolkit

This invaluable resource is now available to understand the importance of reducing the environmental impact within the fashion industry and to provide tangible and practical information to become more sustainable.

Pure London returned to Olympia London from 12 - 14 February 2023 and reunited the fashion industry to showcase the UK’s largest womenswear collections, the season’s must-have fashion accessories, shoes, and jewellery, and exclusive international networking opportunities.

It was an unmissable edition and the team was proud to launch The Independent Fashion Retailer Sustainability Toolkit on its Sustainability stand.

The Toolkit was produced and written by Pure London’s Sustainability Advisor, Olivia Pinnock, and provides a step-by-step guide made up of five comprehensive chapters to help independent fashion retailers tackle sustainability, with practical information on everything they need to know to embrace sustainability in their business and move towards a more sustainable way of working, from reducing carbon footprint and energy consumption to sustainable packaging.

With up to 14,000 independent fashion retailers in the UK, “The Sustainability Toolkit is a must for any fashion business, and even better, it is entirely free saving businesses costly consultancy fees,” said Gloria Sandrucci, Event Director of Pure London. “Independents may not have the big teams or budget that chain stores do, but we believe they have many other qualities that make them well-positioned to influence the industry in sustainable change. Collectively, we can make a huge difference.”

The areas covered in the toolkit include the creation of a strategy, operating stores in a more eco-conscious way, sourcing mindfully, circularity, and customer-focused communication. It also presents two insightful independent retailer case studies with Trad Collective in Leeds and the winner of the High Street Shop of the Year, Sancho’s in Exeter, as they share how they embrace sustainability in their business and its benefits. Olivia has also worked with the team to create a series of fashion lectures on the Climate Crisis, Circularity, and Sustainability, and visitors had the opportunity to join Olivia for a panel discussion on Monday 13th February to hear about the new toolkit first-hand.

Gloria We fully understand the importance of reducing the environmental impact within the fashion industry and we’re determined to use our global platform to inform on this critical topic and provide unrivalled advice. It is imperative that every agent in the fashion industry works towards reducing their environmental footprint and reducing inequalities along the value chain to give everyone on earth a fair chance at combatting the challenges ahead.
